190 x 149 x 43 cm
Powder-coated steel tubes, steel rods, resin and jesmonite casts, CNC laser-cut aluminium, taxidermy Goliath beetle head and horns (Goliathus Regius), goat horns, screws, rods, plastic and polyurethane rings.
Goliath from both the biblical giant, the Goliath us beetle, and similarly named car models, is conceived from the ‘need for speed’ of advancing life. Its mechanical structure is built around the tiny, suspended horns of the beetle. The form alludes to race cars, and their performative value of strength, sexiness, and masculinity. The car-size piece suggests an inclination towards sci-fi, dystopian and Brutalist aesthetics, hovering above ground as if ready to take off. The understated colours and mixed textures allow it to coalesce into contemporary interior spaces, enhancing its ominous presence.
