Kagouras, (2021)

28 x 22 cm

56 pages, inkjet print on velvet paper.

Kagouras, this ethnographic work delves into a Greek subculture exemplifying the relationship between masculinity and the automobile industry through a compilation of photos, texts, and interviews with working-class men aged 18-30 and referred to as kagouras Emulating the aesthetics of 90s and early 2000s car magazines, it examines how car culture becomes an extension of identity, pride, and status, where power, control, and sexuality find expression. Over seven months embedded in this environment, often at illegal street races and other car related gatherings, the artist documented not only the cars but also the unspoken social codes, interactions, and rituals of this group. This project has become foundational to the artist’s practice, informing his approach to future works that interrogate identity, objecthood, and cultural expression within similar themes of masculinity and mechanical objects.
